Blue Heron Fine Art is an established antiques and fine arts company specializing in exceptional 19th and 20th century
American paintings, furniture and interior decorations. As a private dealer our works are shown by appointment and
displayed at numerous antique and fine art shows throughout the Northeast. Fine art appraisals, collection management
and bidder representation are among the additional services that we offer. Our current inventory of fine art paintings
can be viewed at http://www.blueheronFA.com.
Blue Heron Fine Art offers art appraisals for a nominal fee of $150 per piece of
artwork appraised. The specialty of our fine art appraisal service is American landscape paintings,
portrait paintings, and marine art of the 19th and early 20th century. We are members of
the New England Appraisers Association.
What You Receive
Art appraisals rendered will conform to the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP).
This is the national standard to which all appraisers adhere.
The art appraisal report will offer an opinion of "fair market value", not a retail value.
A "fair market value" is defined as an amount of money a willing buyer would pay and
a willing seller would receive for the item. In practical terms, this is usually what your work would
bring at a competitive auction or through a sale to a reputable dealer who specializes in such works.
This "fair market value" will be established by the sales comparison approach and will utilize
data including sales at galleries, auction results, price guides, opinions of other experts, or other
personal observations. Finally, this report will be heavily dependent on the information you provide us.
Since this service does not depend on a physical examination of the work, the more comprehensive the
information you provide us, the more accurate your art appraisal will be. Please read below for the types
of information that we will need in order to perform your art appraisal.
Art appraisals such as the ones we prepare online are used primarily for personal planning reasons, such
as a contemplated sale or purchase, or for establshing an "agreed upon value" for insurance purposes.
If you require an art appraisal for other reasons, such as tax purposes or a divorce settlement etc.,
it is suggested that you submit your item to a qualified appraiser who is capable of conducting a
personal inspection of your artwork.
We are confident that we will be able to appraise your work. If for some reason, we are unable to determine
a value using the methods outlined above, we will promptly refund any amounts paid to us.
What We Require
In addition to receipt of the art appraisal fee, we require three photographs of each painting to be
appraised; one photo of the front, one of the back, and one closeup photo of the artist's signature.
Condition issues such as rips, patches or losses to the canvas of any kind should be noted. Include other
relevant information to the art appraisal such as artist name, painting title (if any), size, medium (oil,
watercolor, etc.) and whether the painting is framed. Note any descriptive labels on the back, or any
previous purchase/acquisition information.
