
Johann Berthelsen, American, 1883-1967.Johann Berthelsen was a noted painter and teacher. His family emigrated to the U.S. in 1889 from Denmark, settling in Chicago. Berthelsen studied and taught music in Chicago, but his contemporaries convinced him to paint. Berthelsen moved to NYC in 1920 and was soon dedicated to painting full time. He was a memeber of the prestigious Salmagundi Club in NYC, and the American Watercolor Society. Berthelsen's paintings were exhibited extensively throughout the country. He is best known for his beautiful Impresssionist renderings of NYC in snow, of which, this painting is a wonderful example. Another New York city scene by Johann Berthelsen is also available.
