
Paul Weber, American/German. b. Darmstadt, Germany, 1823 d. Philadelphia, PA, 1916.After studying in Frankfort, Paul Weber came to America in 1848, and settled in Philadelphia. In 1857 he toured Scotland and Germany and in 1860 he returned to Darmstadt where he was appointed court painter. His American work was generally pure landscape, of which one of the finest examples is his "Evening" in the permanent collection of the Academy of Fine Arts. The Corcoran Gallery at Washington also has "Scene in the Catskills", painted by him in 1958. He exhibited extensively at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the National Academy of Design, the Boston Athenaeum, The Brooklyn Art Association and the Paris Salon. In Philadelphia he also held a position as art teacher, where one of his students was Edward Moran. On exhibit: "Hudson River Mountain view". Unsigned, attributed to Paul Webber. Oil on canvas.
